Teacher of the Month - February 2012

Mrs. Patricia Ciarlo

Mrs. Patricia Ciarlo is Beacon Academy of Nevada’s Teacher of the Month for February 2012.  She was born in Port Hueneme, California and grew up in Santa Barbara, California.  After graduating from Dos Pueblos High School she moved to the Bay area and attended UC Berkeley. At Berkeley she majored in mathematics and became a math teacher.

She met her future husband Craig in 1979 at Cal State Hayward and then moved to Las Vegas where she and Craig were married.  She immediately started working in the Clark County School District at Woodbury Jr. High School.  When daughters Kaitlyn and Sammi came along, Mrs. Ciarlo decided to take some time off from teaching to care for the girls while her husband Craig continued to teach.  She continued her personal education and in 1985 was awarded a master’s degree in secondary curriculum.

Once the girls were old enough to start school, Mrs. Ciarlo went back to teaching math, this time at Chaparral High School.  She has taught at Valley High School and is currently a teacher at Silverado High School.  Since her husband is now retired from teaching, he has become the stay at home parent working with their youngest daughter Lyric.

Mrs. Ciarlo has been with Beacon Academy since its inception in 2008 teaching several levels of math, particularly Algebra.  She has also developed an Algebra I course for Beacon Academy and is currently working on developing an essential math course.

The Ciarlo’s have three lovely daughters.  Kaitlyn is 20 years old and is studying to follow her parent’s footsteps and become a math teacher.  Sammi is 18 and a freshman at UNLV and a highly talented violinist while their youngest daughter Lyric is 10 years old.  She loves math, science and singing.

In their spare time, she and her husband love to play tennis and share a passion for the San Francisco Giants baseball club.  Additionally, they enjoy spending time with their daughters and participating in many of their school activities.

Please join us in congratulating a truly dedicated, understanding and caring teacher, Mrs. Patricia Ciarlo, as our teacher of the month for February 2012.
